Therapy For Schools in Merseyside

I have a therapeutic offer for primary schools based in Merseyside, where I can provide one-to-one therapy for children requiring mental health support within your school (with consent from child’s legal guardian). I can see a maximum of four children if you would like the service for a full day, or two children if you only want a morning or afternoon of support.

I charge a set rate of £50 per hour, so the sessions can be flexible around your school’s needs. The contracts run on a monthly basis, and we will decide the number of sessions for each child on a case-by-case basis. I charge a £50 holding fee over school holidays to cover any support calls from parents, but all sessions will take place during term time (unless arranged otherwise).

I have over 4 years experience of working with schools as part of an organisation, from this experience I have learnt a lot about how to run effective therapy sessions in this environment, and working together with teachers to try and make a difference to children who need support.

I have a specialism in working with children who are Autistic or have a learning disability, so I am able to make adaptations to the way I work where a child may need more support. As a creative therapist, there is no demand for the child to speak in sessions, therefore, I can offer support to children who are non-verbal or learning to speak English as a second language.

This is a mental health support service, so I will decline to work with any children where the service is not appropriate.

Delivery Model

Signed consent from child’s legal guardian must be obtained before meeting can take place

  1. Referral meeting
Referral meeting with school, parents/guardian are welcome to attend where appropriate, this will discuss the child’s suitability for therapy and I will ask for personal details to add to a secure client database.
This meeting can be held in school or online.
  2. Week prior to sessions starting
Teacher to complete questionnaire with child which must be received prior to sessions starting
  3. Intervention begins
(At least) 10 weekly 40 minute sessions to take place during school term.
It is possible for sessions to be as long as the child needs. I would recommend that children are given a set number of sessions, so we can work towards a therapeutic ending and the child can prepare for their routine to change.
The minimum amount of sessions I would deliver is 10 and this can be extended based on case by case review.
The amount of sessions required will be discussed in the initial referral meeting, and can be reviewed as the therapy progresses depending on the child’s engagement.
I would advise not to extend if there is only one agreed session left, unless there are extenuating circumstances.
I would also decline to cut sessions short unless there is a valid reason that we have discussed and agreed, as this could cause confusion for the child.
  4. On completion of therapy
Teacher completes questionnaire again with child to recognise changes in mood. Feedback form will be sent to parent/guardian.

Written report is available at an additional cost, if requested, this would take a week before I can accept the next referral.
